Client viewpoint
Sometimes it is great to see the person behind the 'Very Important Job Title' so we thought we'd go client side and find out more about some of the people we work with day to day at Career Prospects.
This edition we focus on Andrew Lamsdale Managing Director of Black Country based business - LA Elwell.
What do you like most about working with Career Prospects?
I can give a clear detailed brief and know that what I get in return meets the criteria. I can hold 'off the record' discussions and know that confidentiality is never an issue. You get what you pay for springs to mind. We have built a trust between us that cannot be reflected in a brochure or on an invoice - it's most definitely worth some time input in developing this.
What was your first job?
I was destined to go into computer programming after passing all of the necessary examinations. Start date was September 1979. In the meantime (April 1979) I noticed a job (not through Career Prospects!) as a Trainee Sales Clerk for a Stainless Steel & Aluminium Stockholder in the Midlands. In my haste £27.50 a week seemed like a better option than waiting until September - and its been Metals all the way ever since and, the rest as they say, is history!
If you were deserted on a desert island what two things would you take?
A wind up lap top - it's such a part of my life now both business and personal that I don't think I could operate without one (I could then also recruit a companion - through Career Prospects of course) and a little book which I would recommend to anyone - called 'Who Moved my Cheese' by Spencer Johnson to remind me how to deal with 'change'.
If you could do any job, what would it be?
It would have to be a pilot, I have always had an interest in planes, have completed 20 odd hours in a Cessna and regret never keeping up the interest level. Flying in the cockpit beats Super Economy any day! *Keep my CV on file please Kevin*
Which song would be the soundtrack of your life?
Soundtrack of my life - 'Ain't no Mountain High Enough' - how corny! However, to get anywhere near to 'making it' in business really is a roller coaster ride, it's not how you deal with the 'ups', its how you deal with the 'downs'. The mountains come out of nowhere when you least expect them - be disciplined and determined enough to conquer these and the rest is easy!!
Can you sum Career Prospects up in 4 words?
Willing, Organised, Ready, Kapable (no its not a spelling mistake!)
